High End Blu-ray Player… Worth The Money?

by admin on January 6, 2010

I just got a new samsung 7 series 52inch LCD tv. I have to say that it is well worth the money. I was considering the 9 series but the only difference was the Led back lighting, and it was over a 1000.00 bucks more. I was also looking at the sony xbr8 but it had less depth then the samsung at about twice the price.
Ok. My question is about the high end Blu-ray and Dvd players. They cost from 1000 – 3000 dollars. Most new TV have built in video processors that dose a hell of a job at making your video look better. The 120hz refresh rate makes things pop out and give it a lot more detail and depth. So if the TV is doing such a great job at making the movies look better, what’s the point of getting a high end blue ray or Dvd player. I know the build quality and sound quality is a lot better, but picture wise, I don’t see the point.
Right now I have Samsung LN52A750 hook up using Monster cable M1000 Hdmi to my Playstation 3(which still have the fastest loading time on any Blu-ray player that I have seen). For dvd movies, I am using Pioneer Elite DV-49AV also using Monster cable M1000(over kill I think but I got them cheap online).
I thought about getting
Sony ES BDP-S5000ES blu-ray player but I think It would be a wast of money, so maybe a Pioneer elite BDP-05FD. I like the pioneer players because they play almost all format.
So what do you think I should do? and will getting a high-end player be worth the money.

stick with your PS3. Spend money on something else.

I’m like you. I’ve always been a high-end equipment enthusiast. But I have learned (mostly from “Home Theater” magazine) that prices – and even brands – of modern receivers and Blu-Ray players do not correlate with video quality.
Home Theater magazine has 10 video tests they perform on Blu-Ray players. Very few players pass all 10 regardless of brand or price. Two that that did pass are the Panasonic DMP-BD35, which can be had at Best Buy for only $230, and its big brother the DMP-BD55. Both are Profile 2 and handle all the HD sound formats. The only difference is that the BD55 has 7.1 analog outputs and plays Divx discs.
I went out and snapped up a BD35 last weekend. As much as I enjoy “elite” level components, this was pretty much a no-brainer.
