There are no jagged edges with the per-pixel motion adaptive algorithm and a sophisitcated multi-directional diagonal filter. It doesn’t get any better than this for viewing enjoyment. HQV’s true 1080p HD deinterlacing delivers the sharpest, most detailed HD images possible by employing per-pixel motion adaptive algorithms and a sophisticated multi-directional diagonal filter that ensures video without jagged edges. Setting the Movie Frame (24Fs) feature to ON allows you to adjust the Blu-ray player’s HDMI output to 24 frames per second for improved picture quality. The powerful HQV processing engine also provides per-pixel motion adaptive noise-reduction, detail enhancement and advanced scaling delivering premium quality upconverted SD material.

HQV maximizes resolution and detail
For high definition material and allows standard definition to approach High definition. Maximizing Resolution: Converting standard-definition to high definition requires resizing/scaling the image up to 6 times. Converting 1080i interlaced to progressive: 480i/1080i video is broadcast as interlaced where each image contains half of the total picture information. The reconstruction of these half frames is called de-interlacing.

More capacity, more versatility!
Current dual layer Blu-ray discs can hold up to 50GB. That’s over 4 hours of HDTV programs, or up to 26 hours of standard definition TV. And thanks to the structure of Blu-ray discs, capacity is likely to increase two-fold in the future.

Complete Backwards Playback compatibility
In addition to playing high-definition BD discs, Samsung Blu-ray technology offers complete backward compatibility. You can still enjoy your current favorite CDs and DVDs, no matter the format. In fact, they look and sound better than ever before, because the BD-P1200 can take your current DVD library and upconvert it to a near high-definition experience via 720p/1080i and 1080p.

User-Friendly Graphic Interface
Samsung’s BD-P1200 BD Player includes various user interface menus & subtitle functions to allow consumers to easily discover and search for detailed content regarding the video. The full-color, high-definition animated menu and subtitle effects allow you to incorporate your own personal creative touch.

Easy Top Menu
With the easy top menu, you change the font & color of subtitles and menu titles as well as the background color and menu graphic-all to fit your individual style.

I have a Samsung Blu-Ray player (BD-P1000) which I bough 3 months ago from Amazon. I also purchased the Blu-Ray Pirates of the Caribbean Blu-Ray disk. Guess what? The Samsung player won’t play the disk – won’t even load it.

Before buying the BD-P1200, make sure it will play the disks you want. How will you know? I guess call Samsung.

This is a good Blu-ray player for the price. I did have problems with the first one I received though. The unit would occasionally freeze up when trying to load a disc. I couldn’t even eject the disc. Onecall exchanged it and paid the shipping costs both ways, however. I have a fully functioning unit now and am quite pleased.

One gripe I have is that when you play Blu-rays it doesn’t use the entire screen. Granted, the picture is near perfection but there is still the black bars on the top and bottom.

Having experienced the best HD DVD has to offer with the Toshiba HD-XA2 I was a bit curious on where Blu-ray stood in terms of quality. The HD-XA2 is an amazing machine with upscaling capabilites that are second to none. Since the BD-P1200 used the same Reon chip, I was pretty sure my jump into Blu-Ray would be equally as good as HD DVD. WRONG!

The BD-P1200 is not a good player and Blu-Ray discs have a long way to go to match the quality HD DVD has to offer. My expreience with this player is just flat out bad. Locked up, pink screen when skipping over trailers, loading times are TERRIBLE and frankly, the video quality does not match the HD-XA2. Of course, I could of had a bad player but the fact is this player doesn’t support alot of the future specs of Blu-Ray which essentially makes the machine obsolete. Its no secret that Blu-ray is giving 5 free movies away with a deadline by 10/31/07 which happens to be the day that BD-J 1.1 will be finalized. So guess what, all the players on the market now (including this one) will NOT be compatible with BD-J 1.1. This player does not also support current audio codecs like Tru-HD. Needless to say, I returned the BD-P1200 immediatley.

I would avoid Blu-ray until they get there act together. They need to put out a finished product both in software and hardware. Until then, I will be enjoying HD DVD on the top of the line HD-XA2.
