Are both of your players hooked up with HDMI cables? If not that would explain the difference. There should be negligible difference in image quality between blu-ray players playing blu-rays over HDMI because the image is unchanged from disc to display, no processing needed. The main advantage PS3 has over most, but not all, blu-ray players is the faster disc loading time.
There will be a difference in DVD image quality between players, because there is a lot of processing involved in upscaling the image to fit an HD display, and every player uses a different chip to do that work.
pretty sad that people buy blue ray players if they already have a ps3…
a good blu ray player is around 200£, if u buy a ps3 for 250-280£, basicly means your only paying 50-80£ to also play games and browse the web and all the other features of ps3
The PS3 is a better image processor than most low-end Blu-Ray players.
And no, using the PS3 as a blu-ray player will not shorten the life of the PS3. I have one of the Gen-One PS3’s from when they first came out and I’m using it for my Blu-Ray, and my NetFlix as well as for gaming. Not a problem yet.
